I plan on cleaning out my boys' clothes/toy closet this weekend.....hopefully we'll find the floor. I hear Toys-R-Us in needing to re-stock it's shelves for Christmas....I think I could help 'em out a bit.
What surprises me is that they can get 'bored' on ANY level with all the 'entertainment' that they have....
iPod's, DS's, Playstation, phones, computers, and any kind of toy imaginable which mostly just sit in the closet. Not to mention all the 'outside' toys they have. Then there's the Walmart trip which always contains "I want a toy!!".....Me: "Arrrrggghhhhh!!!!" :-(
When they can come to me and say....."Mom, I'M BORED!!!!", I break out the ..."Well, when I was your age, I only had a record player and records and books to entertain me and I was JUST fine." They look at you with a really weird look......(no comprehension of the word 'RECORD', you see.....)
And READ????? Are you crazy????? THAT'S not entertainment!!! I beg to differ.......and still do find it incredibly 'fun'....it's just finding the time now.
The only exception to this is Little T, who has JUST learned to read and has been pulling books off the shelf in the living room consistently. He got his Mom's "love of reading", I think. However, he is also the Walmart 'toy' guru.....so maybe next time, we only go to the kids' book aisle when he thinks he needs new entertainment. (Wow, why haven't I thought about that before now????)
So this weekend (God willing and the creek don't rise), I think maybe I'll replace all the toys on their shelves with books.......and watch their little brains go crazy!!!! ;-)
Because I can.
I'm the Mom.
